Questo libro racconta la storia di Caterina da Siena (1347-1380), una di quelle donne che sono riuscite a superare il "silenzio del medioevo" e guadagnarsi, grazie alla sufficiente quantita di informazioni delle fonti, un posto nella ricerca storica e nella coscienza generale. Ma la storia di Caterina non ha soltanto una protagonista, anche se lei ? quella principale. La sua vita ? stata accompagnata fin dall'inizio da guide spirituali e simpatizzanti, che hanno contribuito significativamente alla sua formazione personale e alle sue attivita pubbliche. Queste persone sono state anche quelle che hanno patrocinato e difeso la reputazione della pia donna di Siena dalle voci di critica e di dissenso. This book tells the story of Catherine of Siena (1347-1380), but the story does not have only one - albeit the main - heroine, because her life was accompanied from the very beginning by many religious leaders and sympathizers. They significantly sharedin her personal formation and public activities, safeguarded the legend of the pious woman of Siena from the voices of her critics and opponents and last but not least also took on the task of pushing through Catherine's canonization. They took Catherine's example of sainthood into the historiographical texts and sermons and ensured its popularity at the time of the culminating papal schism. The texts on Catherine (legends, praises, supplements, sermons or process testimony on her sainthood), however, are not interesting only because they provide evidence on the shaping of a new model of the sainthood of a Sienese tertiary and mystic.
