The research-based chapter is focused on motivation. The perspectives and approaches that have been adopted to investigate motivation have changed since the introduction of Gardner and Lambert's social psychological construct of integrative motivation inthe 1970s. This chapter presents a study, which is a part of a larger research project. It focuses on two aspects of language learning motivation, its dynamic nature and temporal variation, while applying a process-oriented approach. The chapter uncovers the temporal progression of language learner motivation over a long period of time. The respondents are Czech learners of English enrolled in English language teacher education programmes at three universities in the Czech Republic. On the basis of quantitative data obtained through a questionnaire, respondents for narrative interviews were selected.
