Ultraviolet part of solar radiation can affect the substrate with printed ink layer and process of photodegradation can occur. Components like dyes, organic pigments, printing substrates, polymeric dispersants and additives composing printing ink are susceptible to this process. The effect of photodegradation is color shift of printed samples.Photodegradation can be reduced by using UV stabilizers. In this work two types of stabilizers were used. First one was UV absorber (UVA) based on benzotriazole group and second one was free-radical scavenger known as hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) based on 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine group.The efficiency of two types of stabilizers in various concentration in pigment based inkjet ink was studied and compared. Two differently prepared sample inks were tested on many types of various substrates. Exposure by UV light was performed by medium pressure mercury vapour lamp.
