Fluid Flow Visualization through Fluidized Bed of Solid Spherical Particles

Flow visualization is an important topic in scientific visualization and has been the subject of research to gain an understanding of the flow. In this contribution, we present results of study of effects of rheological behaviour of the fluid on the fluidized bed expansion course, the development of the bed structure and flow of fluid through fluidized bed. Flow visualization was carried out using dye advection method. In our experiments, aqueous solutions of Newtonian fluid and different polymers (viscoelastic fluids) were used at fluidization of spherical particles. Glass spheres were used for preparing the beds. The rheological properties of test liquids were measured using rotational rheometer RS 150. As the test column was used a rectangular (?two-dimensional?) column. The flow pattern and the development of the fluidized bed structure were recorded by the camera miniDV. The expansion curve courses were compared for fluidization with Newtonian, pseudoplastic and viscoelastic fluid
