The pressure of the general public and stakeholders on businesses in the area of provision of information on the environmental impact of the enterprise has increased in recent years and can be expected to strengthen even further. It is not clear whetherenterprises are aware of this fact and are capable of adequately reacting to these requirements. The very nature of the main business activities of companies in the chemical industry should place them amongst the representatives of a responsible approachto the environment and should meet the standards and principles of sustainable development. They should also reveal these facts in a suitable manner. In order to evaluate the current level of environmental communication in businesses in the chemical industry, a study was performed at the University of Pardubice on the state of environmental communication through environmental reporting or some other form of written communication of businesses.
