Screening anosmia using a self-administration technique of The Odorized Markers Test.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Objectives: The Odorized Markers Test (OMT) is based on spontaneous naming of odorants and on odor identification from a list of four distractors. Our question was whether the test could be self-administered by patiens without affecting the result of thescreening test. Methods: Healthy people as well as patients suffering from olfactory disorders participated in our study (in total 210 subjects). Two groups were formed. The first group was tested by a standard technique using odorized markers and the second one by a self-administration technique. All participants were tested by Sniffin´ Sticks (threshold and identification testing) as well. Results: Healthy subjects reached a higher average score in the self-administration technique (10.4) than in thestandard OMT (9.9). In both groups, women outperformed men in the OMT. Healthy subjects reached a higher score in both groups than participants suffering from sinonasal diseases, post-upper respiratory tract infection, or from posttrauma
