This paper deals with the possibility of using air temperature, which is widely measured as basic meteorological parameter for predicting water temperature in streams. The aim of the article is to analyze the data of air temperature and water temperaturewhich were measured continuously by Institute of Landscape Water Management from March 2008 at 10 locations south of the city Brno and determine the accuracy of the simple linear model at the range of streams using the average daily, weekly and monthlywater and air temperatures. A particular interest was to determine the time scale of data that produces the most accurate prediction of water temperatures in these streams. For all streams were determined correlation with air temperature at each time scale. Using linear regression were determined the values of a polynomial approximation of the first order and by the method of least squares were determined constants of functional dependence approximation by line.
