Investigation of influence of stress condition on internal instability in soil
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Internal erosion in soil involves loss of fine particles within the coarse particles under seepage flow, which causes considerable changes in the hydraulic and mechanical behaviour of the soil. Worldwide extensive research on the phenomenon of internal erosion was conducted. Terms, such as suffosion, suffusion, heave, boiling, fluidization, piping and others, describing different internal erosion patterns were defined. Types of internal erosion test methods were summarized and classified into three groups, of which different practical purposes can be distinguished. In this paper available findings of several laboratory researches were assessed from the point of view of investigating the initiation and development of internal erosion and the effect of stress condition on hydraulic and mechanical characteristics of soil samples subjected to seepage flow. Final conclusion on the effect of stress condition on internal erosion was performed based on available data.
