Saving of GHG by modifying schedule of waste collection routes
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The decision about a suitable waste collection system is closely connected with economic performance. However, an environmental criterion should be considered in the first place, especially in the cities, where the concentration of GHG and toxic particles is much higher. These substances in the air are very harmful to the population and environment. An evaluation of individual contribution from different industrial sectors is more important in the case, where the impact is repetitive. The regular service of waste containers/collection points is the perfect example. The performance of waste collection has to be analysed, and some improvement suggested. Moreover, the tendency to transition into a circular economy is applied in developed countries. This fact leads to the increase of the separation rate and it is necessary to update the obsolete collection system. The new fractions of waste are being collected and the number of already installed containers grows. Collection schedules are very often changed manually, which in the long-term leads to the inefficient operation. The attention should be paid to the emissions production which is to be reduced in order to improve the environment in inhabited areas. Such a reduction is being achieved by substituting the vehicle fleet with some greener vehicles. Nevertheless, these investments are enormous and cannot be realised everywhere due to a small budget. However, the improvement can be reached also in a different way, one of them is the modification of current collection routes or efficient planning of container grid and their placement in the collection routes. This paper presents an approach for the assessment of produced GHG of the waste collection system. Heuristic algorithms and other tools are used to calculate more optimal routes, where the current servicing order is used as the starting point for the whole computation. The current and modelled situation is evaluated through a case study for the municipality in the
