PREPARATION OF POLYPROPYLENE COMPOSITES BY GRAFTING MONOMER TREATED FILLER
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of this work is to view the efficiency of grafting of itaconic anhydride to polypropylene (PP) in the presence of fillers. Due to the polarity issue between polypropylene and commercially used fillers, the itaconic anhydride was used as a compatibilizer between PP matrix and filler. Improved adhesion positively influences mechanical properties of consequential composite. Anhydride of itaconic acid was selected as a renewable resource. Glass fibers, calcite and two types of ground wooden pulp were used as fillers. Two analytical methods were chosen to analyze the efficiency of grafting: acid-base titration and infrared spectroscopy. Assigned conversion was from 42 to 87 % for various fillers. The value of conversion was determined from peak arearatio of itaconic anhydride and polypropylene in the case of infrared spectroscopy. KOH ethanolic solution was used as a titration reagent by the acid-base titration of sample solution in hot xylene. The best efficiency of grafting show
