Light Scattering Techniques as a Key for Accessing of the Molecular Weight and Size of Humic Substances Originating from Different Source Materials
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Abstract. This contribution is focused on the utilization of light scattering techniques (dynamic, static and electrophoretic) for purposes of an in-depth study on the aggregation, conformation changes and colloidal stability of soluble fractions of humic substances in aqueous solutions. For these purposes, the behaviour of various soluble humic fractions (mainly humic and fulvic) was studied and compared. The heterogeneity of humic molecules in their aqueous solutions was firstly necessary to decrease before their subsequent instrumental light scattering characterization. For these purposes, the methods of size exclusion chromatography and asymmetric flow-field flow fractionation were used. The obtained results showed similar basic structural features in the case of the individual humic acids isolated from different source materials as well as between the various studied fulvic acids. Different aggregation behaviour was observed in the case of the commertial lignohumate sample.
