Dramatic changes of business conditions have recently occurred need for sophisticated and responsive approaches to better supply and demand management. Academic theory discovered and practical experiences confirm that the future of Supply Chain Management (SCM) in a demand - driven environment will be in Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and Consignment Stock (CS) inventory policy. Both concept of VMI and CS inventory police imply greater collaboration between the buyer, supplier and pushing them towards acomplete exchange of information and sharing of management risks. This article will briefly summarise main atributes and benefits of VMI, CS inventory policy in automotive sector, as a important strategy, which help entreprises adopt to face new manufacturing and SCM challenges.
