Mapping the Role of European Universities of Applied Sciences as Entrepreneurial Hubs of Regional Development

This chapter presents preliminary results from project UASiMAP. Generally, we are focused on answering the question of what indicators–quantitative as well as qualitative–are used to assess the involvement of UAS in regional development. For that purpose, we have created a concept based on identified groups of relevant indicators = self-evaluation framework for the creation of a tool (see Methodology). The research was done in two steps: 1) the literature review and 2) collecting national data from participating countries. The UASiMAP team reviewed relevant indicators used in several European countries (Belgium, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland, Portugal). The literature review was based on content analysis of chosen texts and other sources which are focused on identifying useful indicators for our planned UAS self-reflection tool. Based on the literature review, we would like to initiate the development process of such a self-reflection tool, critically discuss the main challenges and provide potential solutions to them. As such, the paper could serve as a platform for the opening of discussion about the goal of the UASiMAP project, i.e. creation/development of a UAS self-reflection tool, to the broader audience.
