Fear of COVID-19. Who are people more worried about, themselves or their loved ones?
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the daily lives of individuals, not only in terms of its scale and intensity, but also in the diverse interventions implemented by each country, such as curfews, quarantines, and restrictions on gatherings, all aimed at minimizing social interactions. This paper focuses on identifying the key factors that contribute to the fear surrounding the disease. To measure fear, the widely recognized Fear of Covid-19 scale (FCV-19S) was employed, supplemented by other specific indicators. In addition to the typical variables related to health concerns, this study also investigates the fear individuals experience for their close family members who may be at risk. The findings of a nationwide representative survey shed light on people's attitudes towards the outbreak and the implemented interventions. The results presented have both methodological and substantive significance. Methodologically, the paper is significant by employing a regression model to demonstrate the impact of the main determinants. Substantively, these findings may aid in proposing appropriate coping strategies in response to the pandemic.
