PerSlowAct - Remedial Technology of Slow-Release/Activated Persulfate for Long Lasting In Situ Chemical Oxidation
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The PerSlowAct technology is based on a combination of innovative methods for investigating contaminated sites, using so-called High Resolution Site Characterisation (HRSC) techniques for detailed characterization of the geological environment and precise delineation of areas affected by contamination. This is followed by targeted injection of a “material for the oxidative remediation of groundwater contaminated with organic solvents and petroleum hydrocarbons,” protected by utility model No. 38926, into the geological environment using the Frac-In-Ox injection method, with the aim of achieving long-term active in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) of organic solvents in the subsurface. HRSC comprises a set of advanced site investigation techniques designed to obtain a detailed three-dimensional understanding of subsurface conditions and contaminant distribution. By combining high-density sampling, direct-push technologies, and real-time or near-real-time measurements, HRSC enables precise delineation of contaminant source zones, migration pathways, and hydrogeological heterogeneity. This targeted approach significantly improves the effectiveness of remedial design, reduces uncertainty, and minimizes the required volume of remediation agents. The Frac-In-Ox method for direct-push injection of remediation agents is based on a combination of direct-push injections of pressurized gas (pneumatic fracturing) and remediation suspensions, which serve both as a so-called proppant to fill the generated fractures and as carriers of strong oxidizing agents that degrade organic contaminants directly within the geological environment. This method eliminates the need for conventional hydrogeological drilling and enables the application of concentrated suspensions of sodium and potassium persulfate together with macro-particles of zero-valent iron. The zero-valent iron serves a dual function: it ensures rapid activation of high concentrations of sodium persulfate during the initial phase of contaminant oxidation and at the same time enables slow, long-term activation of gradually dissolving potassium persulfate. Unlike standard ISCO applications, in which only the cheaper and highly soluble sodium persulfate is typically used, the combination of both types of persulfates allows significantly improved remediation performance. High concentrations of sodium persulfate in groundwater following injection lead to a rapid decrease in contaminant concentrations. In contrast, solid potassium persulfate is released into groundwater gradually, in response to declining concentrations of sodium persulfate. At the same time, contaminants present in the geological environment often re-dissolve, as they commonly occur in large amounts either as a non-aqueous phase liquid or sorbed onto soil particles. As a result, conventional ISCO applications frequently exhibit the so-called rebound effect: although most of the contamination dissolved in groundwater is removed immediately after treatment, contaminant concentrations subsequently increase again after the decomposition of sodium persulfate due to desorption and dissolution from the non-aqueous phase. Thanks to the presence of undissolved potassium persulfate, this rebound effect can be significantly reduced, as contaminants released over time are continuously oxidized by the gradually released and activated oxidizing agent. The PerSlowAct method therefore makes it possible to achieve a level of remediation with a single application that would otherwise require repeated injections when using conventional ISCO. As a result, the technology offers approximately 40% higher economic efficiency compared to standard ISCO applications, while simultaneously providing significant environmental benefits through reduced consumption of chemical agents, transportation demands, and equipment operation. The technology is especially useful on the low permeability sites where other technologies typically fail.

Technické parametry
Ověřená technologie PerSlowAct spočívá v kombinaci pokročilého detailního průzkumu kontaminovaných lokalit a cílené aplikace in situ chemické oxidace. Díky využití direct-push technologií a pneumatického štěpení umožňuje aplikaci sanačních činidel i v obtížně přístupných geologických podmínkách bez nutnosti klasického vrtání. Výsledkem je zvýšení účinnosti sanace, snížení potřeby opakovaných aplikací a celkové zlepšení ekonomické i environmentální udržitelnosti sanačních zásahů.
Ekonomické parametry
Technol. PerSlowAct přináší významné ekonom. přínosy při realizaci san. prací. Díky využití detailního průzkumu metodami HRSC je možné přesněji zacílit aplikaci san. činidel do nejvíce kontamin. zón, což vede ke snížení jejich celkové spotřeby a optimalizaci návrhu sanačních opatření. Současně kombinace rychle působícího persíranu sodného a pomalu se uvolňujícího persíranu draselného umožňuje dosáhnout požadovaného san. efektu již při jednorázové aplikaci, čímž se eliminuje potřeba opakovaných injektáží. Další úspory jsou spojeny se snížením nároků na prac. sílu, provoz techniky a logistiku, jelikož technol. využívá direct-push metody bez nutnosti klasického vrtání a minimalizuje počet zásahů na lokalitě. Omezení spotřeby chem. látek, dopravy a provozu zařízení zároveň přináší i environmen. benefity. Celkově lze na základě srovnání očekávat zvýšení ekonom. efektivity přibližně o 40 % oproti standardním aplikacím ISCO s persíranem sodným, přičemž konkrétní úspory závisí na podmínkách dané lokality.
