Mankind´s role in steering the solar energy fluxes by managing water and influencing vegetation is described. The key role of landscape managers in mitigating the local climate extremes and influencing water regime is stressed. The complexity of dynamicprocesses of energy dissipation in water cycle does not allow us to forget the importance of water in preventing the climatic extremes and the aging of landscape. Methods of measurements and monitoring of energy and water fluxes are shown. Data from theCzech Republic and Australia are presented and compared.
