ISBN978-80-7212-607-1 Desertification refers to the problem of land degradation in arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid regions due to loss of vegetation, loss of soil moisture, and water erosion. Deterioration in soil and plant cover has adversely affected nearly 52 % of the land areas, especially cultivated landscape. According to FAO, nearly 200 000 km2 of agricultural land loses its economic efficiency annually from which about of 60 000 km2 is converted into desert. Addressing the desertification problem requires an integrated approach. Rehabilitation and recovery techniques help stop land degradation and restore already degraded land.
