Effect of Four OHxF Rootstocks on Performance of ´Conference´ Pear in Non-Irrigated Orchards
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Growth and yield characteristics of ´Conference´ pear (Pyrus communis) grafted on four pear ´Old Home´ x ´Farmingdale´ clonal rootstock selections OHxF69, OHxF87, OHxF230, OHxF333 and standard quince rootstock BA 29 (Cydonia oblonga) were evaluated from 1999-2013. The orchard was established in the North East Bohemia region of the Czech Republic, in the spring 1996. The trees were planted in medium loamy soil in a non-irrigated orchard. Planting distance was 5 x 2.1 m and the trees were trained to a central leader. We measured flowering intensity, yield, trunk cross section area (TCSA), yield efficiency, average fruit weight and suckering. There was no significant difference in tree size but the trees on OHxF69 and OHxF230 were the most vigorous. The highest cumulative yield was with OHxF69 (349 kg per tree), followed by OHxF87 (335 kg per tree) and BA 29 (329 kg per tree). The highest yield efficiency was with OHxF87 followed by BA 29 and OHxF69, and lower was on OHxF333 and OHxF230. BA 29 had the most suckers (12.2 suckers per tree during 1999-2013), while the other rootstocks had negligible number of suckers. There were no significant differences in fruit weight among rootstocks, but the highest average fruit weight was observed on BA 29 and OHxF69. We concluded that if the conditions require the use of pear rootstocks for some reason, OHxF69 and OHxF87 can substitute BA 29 without significant negative influence on productivity and management of less intensive production systems.
