The toxicity of the glyphosate herbicide for Pardosa spiders’ predatory activity depends on the formulation of the glyphosate product
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Glyphosate is an herbicide which was previously considered safe for non-target organisms. 825.8 million kilograms of glyphosate-based products were used globally in 2014. The toxicity of pure glyphosate is well known, yet there is little information on the toxicity of glyphosate products, which contain other compounds that may increase or decrease toxicity. Here we studied the efects of diferent glyphosate-based formulations on the predatory activity of wolf spiders Pardosa against fies. We measured the number of dead fies after direct spider contact with seven commercial glyphosate-based formulations. We found that Roundup® Klasik pro afected predatory activity in the short term. For long-term predatory activity, the number of dead fies increased slower in the cases of application of Roundup® Klasik pro and Touchdown Quattro®. Our results support the hypothesis that various pesticide formulations with the same active ingredient have different efects on predators. Therefore, approval authorities should take formulation toxicity into account to give preference to more environmentally friendly products.
