Unusual wheat morphotype - Multirow spike

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

The spike morphology undoubtedly affects the plant productivity and thus the yield per area unit. The expression of our MRS lines which are determined by WFZP-D locus can be influenced by other genes and environment, which modify the number of extra spikelets on the rachis node and the shape of spike. Two winter wheat lines of common wheat with MRS (V2-29-17, V3-94-18) were compared with 107 standard wheat European varieties with normal spike (NS). The yields of breeding lines V2-29-17 and V3-94-18 with MRS reached 11.29 t/ha and 11.85 t/ha , which was 11 % and 7 % less than the average of a set of common 107 varieties with NS. Lines with MRS achieved lower amount of spikes per square meter. MRS lines have much smaller grains, usually between 25 – 45 g. The near- isogenic line ANBW 6A with MRS has the yield of 15.6 % lower than Novosibirskaya 67 and it can be assumed that this reduction in yield was caused by the presence of MRS. Although this yield reduction was due to the presence of MRS, this morphotype should not be marginalised, because it’s higher spike productivity and reproduction capacity does not contradict the variety breeding trend. It is supposed the changed spike morphology can be exploited to improve yield potential and genetic variability of wheat which is globally important crop. Mendel Genetics Conference.
