The sensitivity of selected photomultipliers in the field of gamma and neutron radiation
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Poster presented as part of the international conference RAD 2024, which took place on June 17-24, 2024 in Herceg Novi (Montenegro). Photomultipliers are commonly used in the development of ionizing radiation detectors. A scintillator which is a part of radiation detector emits ultraviolet or visible light in the process of interaction with ionizing radiation. A photomultiplier collects ultraviolet or visible light and converts into an electrical signal for further processing. During the development of the optical fiber detector, we measured the sensitivity of the photomultiplier without a scintillator. We found that the response of the photomultiplier in the field of gamma radiation is not negligible. We decided to test selected photomultipliers in the field of gamma and neutron radiation as well. The following types of photomultipliers 9102, 9266, R6231 and R6233 equipped with an active negative voltage divider have been tested. The signals from the photomultipliers have been processed via multi-channel analyzer (MCA-1000). The response spectra have been measured and the sensitivity for 137Cs and 241Am-Be sources was calculated.
