Africa from the perspective of copenhagen school of Security – fragile states vs. security dynamics
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Africa as a continent suffers from many economic, political and security problems. In spite of unprecedented efforts towards establishing peace in number of countries mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa, the devastating socioeconomic impact caused by previous and ongoing unrest maintains chronic instability in years to come. According to international relations (IR) theory and also regional security complex theory, Sub-Saharan Africa has always been a challenge for international and security studies. Several African countries in past decades would show a catalogue of wars, famines, mass population displacements, barbaric political practices, and also environmental despoliations and plagues. Many reports claim that mainly countries of Africa can be seen as fragile or failed states. The question then arises – how can regional security complex theory (RSCT) explains security dynamics of Sub-Saharan Africa (hereinafter Africa) through the prism of its main attributes compared to concept of failed or fragile states? The paper will try to find an answer to this question.
