The Czech Republic meets the conditions for entry into the euro area from the perspective of nominal as well as real convergence. The criterion of the public finances deficit (impact of the current world financial crisis) will probably be an exception. Deferral of entry into the euro area is connected with growing costs. These are costs of foregone opportunities in the form of the growth of foreign trade and GDP. The national currency is threatened more by the monetary crisis than the single currency ofthe monetary union. The current financial crisis is therefore a call for the increasing of the Czech Republic?s efforts for fast entry into the euro area.
