Sustainable Urban Tourism as a Tool of Competitive Development
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Combining a rich tourist potential, an essential material basis of accommodation, food, entertainment and transportation, numerous facilities for business and services of good quality, urban areas can offer optimal conditions for tourism development, Urban areas that are committed to developing a tourism destination can ensure sustainability and economic benefits for the community and region. Sustainable tourism represents a challenge within urban environments just as it does within wilderness and rural environments. Considering the lack of studies about urban tourism in the Czech Republic, the authors chose Prague and Ostrava cities as a case study. The choice of Prague and Ostrava cities was intentional, as they represent different types of diversified urban attraction. The development of tourism in Prague City is not sustainable in a long-term and if this negative development continuous without proper regulation, Prague will be sooner as later faced with the effect of a tourist trap. On the contrary, Ostrava City still has a certain place for increasing tourism intensity which is supported by existing elements of urban tourism.
