The Fourteenth Province: The Irano-Bahraini Conflict in Perspective
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
While much of the international community has gotten wrapped up in event unfolding in the so-called 'Arab Spring,' few have sought to reflect on specific cases of instability and, instead, tend to depict all revolutions as inter-connected. Such an approach has literally blinded the international community to the reasons behind certain episodes in the Arab Spring. This is particularly true in the case of Bahrain which is facing renewed Iranian interference highlighted in more than thirty years of interference and punctuated with the 2009 Iranian declaration that Bahrain was its 'Fourteenth province.' Indeed, Iran seeks to gain from Bahraini insecurity to take the opportunity to project its power on both sides of the Gulf. This analysis provides a historical narrative regarding Iran's interference in Bahrain to help make sense of Bahrain's chapter in the Arab Spring and the show the very complex engines behind its 'revolution.'
