The present essay interprets the positive expectations as well as the negative aspects of using new media on the African continent. The following example of the post-election violence in Kenya in 2007, shows, that new technologies were misused as a weapon against the civilian population. The development of information and communication technologies continues to expand in this territory, bringing together new challenges and opportunities that could contribute to the democratization of society.
