Review of Democratic Work: Radical Democracy and the Future of Labour
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
In Democratic Work: Radical Democracy and the Future of Labour, Alexis Cukier undertakes the task of outlining a theoretical-practical model of radicalized work to democratize society as a whole. Drawing upon contemporary Marxist approaches, such as materialist feminism and political ecology, and his own research on workers' "democratic intuition" and democratic labor experiments, he conceives an institutional framework to enable a radical transformation of labor and social relations at large. As well-grounded as Cukier's councilist democracy turns out to be, it could benefit from other established Marxist contributions for conceiving a theory of subjectification for his emerging social subject, the worker-citizen, and the institutional foundations for a democratic revolution. This review engages with Antonio Gramsci's early works to provide Cukier's proposal with some solid theoretical purchase, focusing particularly on the collective political consciousness of the subalterns and the centrality of the institutions of proletarian life for creating a workers' democracy.
