Populist Leaders: Angels or Demons? Czechia - Andrej Babiš : "Catch-All" Populist?
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The case study of Czechia aims at the personality and role of Andrej Babiš, founder and leader of the movement "Action of Dissatisfied Citizens 2011" (in Czech "Akce nespokojených občanů," ANO 2011). Even though he has been the part of economic elite with dominant presence in several types of sectors and segments in society (mainly agriculture, food industry, chemistry, medicine, and media just to mention a few), he has always presented himself as the representative of the ordinary people fighting against corrupted political elites. He has been known for abandoning any ideological frameworks and trying to appeal to voters from both right and left. Instead, he often identified himself as being there for every voter, every citizen. By political actions, he has been liberal, social democratic, conservative, and sometimes even radical nationalist (usually consecutively, but sometimes even simultaneously). His political actions, as well as communication style, almost perfectly represent the basic char acteristics of populism as it is defined by academic definitions.
