Decolonizing Central Asia and Central Europe: Centrality as In-Betweenness
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The text presents a conceptual analysis of in-betweenness to complement current attempts to decolonize Central Asia and Central Europe. It acknowledges the importance of the decolonizing narratives but notes that they underline, to some extent, the existence of hierarchies and, therefore, help to maintain the inequalities. By introducing the concept of in-betweenness, the text makes the horizontalizing move to enable exploration of the ambivalent positions of Central Asia and Central Europe through other optics than hierarchy and subalternity. The in-betweenness, characterized as a hybrid, transitory, and indeterminate situation, often destabilizes dichotomies and defies standard, often clear-cut concepts. The text presents four analytical levels to study the in-betweenness of states, regions, or social groups. It applies the spatial type of in-betweenness to Central Asia and Central Europe case studies. However, it proposes that in-betweenness has the analytical potential in international relations, security studies, or area studies.
