Every country possessing a nuclear power has to implement its National radioactive waste management programme with respect to its legislative framework, nuclear energy policy and international conventions. In the contribution will be introduced the Concept of the radioactive waste management, and an involvement of the key stakeholders in the decision making process in the Czech Republic. With regard to the continuing development of a nuclear energy there is a need to deal with a safe disposal of spent nuclear fuel and high level waste arising within nuclear power plants operation, and their decommissioning. To ensure the highest level of a safe disposal of radioactive waste it is necessary, besides an appropriate engineered barrier system, to focus onsuch a geological formation which could be the most suitable for a geological repository construction and operation.
