Changes in floristic composition of permanent grassland in relation to different cutting regimes
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The effects of cutting regime with absence of fertilisation on the floristic composition and species richness were investigated during 2005–2011 on permanent grassland in the locality of Rapotín. Before the experiment set up the grassland was grazed by cattle without artificial fertilisation for more than 30 years. The small-plot trial (one plot size: 30 m2) in completely randomized blocks with four replicates consisted of treatments: (4C) – intensive utilisation (four cuts per year); (3C) – medium intensive utilisation (three cuts per year); (2C) – low intensive utilisation (two cuts per year); (1C) – extensive utilisation (one cut per year); (0C) – control (without any management). Maximum number of vascular species was found in grassland utilised by three cuts per year (24 species in mean of years). Species richness significantly decreased in treatments 1C and 0C (20 and 18 species, respectively). We detected an increasing proportion of competitors (c-strategy) with decreasing intensity of utilisation (52.6 % in 4C; 74.4 % in 1C) and also in the treatment 0C (85.3 %). In contrast, dominance of plants with combined csr-strategy was significantly higher in grasslands with the intensive utilisation (44.2 %) comparing with extensive utilisation and control (19.8 % and 9.5 %, respectively). On the basis of our results we can conclude that in cases of grazing management cessation (e.g. caused by low livestock number) a suitable compromise of three cuts per year could be recommended which can provide species richness and a well-balanced plant community.
