Influence of mycotoxins on pigs organism and detoxication effect of clay adsorbents: a review article
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Mycotoxins are among the most significant issues in humans and animal nutrition, causing a range of serious health problems for both. These substances are a persistent global problem also in pig nutrition. Pigs are considered particularly sensitive to mycotoxin toxicity, with young animals and female breeders among the most susceptible groups. Mycotoxins can cause disorders specific to each toxin, disrupt the animal's immune system, and favor many other dysfunctions (e.g., decreased feed intake, liver or kidney damage, endocrine disruption, reduced fertility). The effects of the most important mycotoxins that cause significant economic losses in pigs' nutrition, as well as symptoms and prevention methods, are reviewed in this article. Contamination by mycotoxins can occur in all agricultural commodities during storage or in the field if conditions are favorable for fungal growth. Problems of diagnostics of mycotoxicosis in pigs and co-occurrence of different mycotoxins in animal feed are also discussed. In addition, mycotoxin prevention and mitigation strategies are reviewed in this article with special emphasis on the efficacy of using clay adsorbents as binding agents.
