Introduction: Umbilical hernias over 3 cm in diameter have a higherreccurence when treated with suture without the application of a pros-thesis. We have innovated purse string repair with PDS II (loop poly-dioxanone monofilament stitch), that has had no early reccurence inour series in two years follow up and is a promising alternative tohernioplasty with a prosthesis in the long term effect. Conclusions: The Liberec loop purse string hernioplasty has excellentresults in short term follow up (2 years) when used in umbilical herniasof 3-10 cm diameter. Hernia recurrence did not occur in any patient inour LLPSH series. The LLPSH has comparable results in surgical siteinfection, the need for analgetics, time of hospitalization, time beforereturning to work with Mayo procedure or running suture. Operatingtime with LLPSH is shorter than in the Mayo procedure.
