Augmented PKI is new software, which combines the role of PKI as defined in the C-ITS system with authentication of external devices cooperating with C-ITS, i.e. mainly the sensor set. Unlike in C-ITS PKI which manages certificates for components of the system to use for signing of the messages, augmented PKI broadens its functionality to distribute certificates also to devices outside from C-ITS system, so that when they communicate with the C-ITS system, this can verify their authenticity.
