Comparison of heterogeneous anion exchange membranes for nitrate ion removal from mixed salt solution
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The objective of the present work was to prepare AEMs with three distinct anion exchange resins, which differ by their ion exchange capacity (IEC). One of the used IERs (SBG2-HP) differed moreover by its functional group bonded to styrene-divinylbenzene backbone (dimethylethanolamine), other used IERs had trimethylamine groups. The increasing hydrophobicity due to lower IEC (lower content of ion exchange groups or increasing carbon number of the alkyl groups attached to the benzyl trialkylammonium groups) facilitates the transport of less hydrated anions such are nitrate and bromide comparing to more hydrated anions such are chloride, fluoride, and sulfate (Sata et al. 1998). Basic laboratory characterization of the AEMs was done and after utilization in laboratory ED stack, their selectivity for nitrate ions by desalination of mixed salt solution was evaluated.
