DEMINERALISATION PERFORMANCE OF THE NOVEL EDR-IV/250 ELECTRODIALYSIS STACK IN THE SINGLE PASS OPERATING MODE
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The novel EDR-IV electrodialysis stack has been developed at MemBrain s.r.o. This stack overcomes the burning issues of the conventional EDR-II stacks available from MEGA a.s. in some applications. In this work, a prototype of the EDR-IV/250 stack was operated in the single pass mode and its basic demineralisation performance was evaluated for aqueous solutions of 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9 kg m-3 NaCl at 25 °C, at flow rates of 5, 11, 17.8, 22.2 and 25 m3 h-1 and voltages of 0 to 2 V/cell pair. The results obtained are fully in accordance with the theory of the electrodialysis process and expected trends. An asymptotic regression function was used to fit experimental data on salt removal vs voltage. The utility function used in the regression analysis of the data on salt removal vs flow rate was based on the mass balance of a volume element of the diluting chamber assuming that the local kinetics of mass transfer could be expressed as a polynomial function of the local salt concentration in the dilute loop under the given voltage conditions. Both nonlinear regression approaches approximate the respective experimental data very good.
