Preparation and characterization of heterogeneous weak base anion exchange membranes
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of this work was to prepare samples of heterogeneous anion exchange membranes with a weak basic ion exchange resin. For comparison, a sample with a strong basic functional group consisting of quaternary amine was also included in the preparation. The ion exchange membranes were prepared using a laboratory discontinuous homogenizer and the extruded films were additionally compressed to ensure the homogeneity of the test sample. Torque and head pressure during homogenization and extrusion were among the observed properties. These parameters are important for the subsequent transfer of production from laboratory to larger industrial scale. Electrochemical and mechanical properties, ion-exchange capacity, and membrane swelling in three solutions (water, NaOH, HCl) were characterized. Weak base ion exchange resin Purolite A830 showed similar properties like strong base ion exchange resin of all the 5-tested weak base ion exchange resins. This ion exchange resin with a polypropylene matrix behaved during processing like the strong base ion exchange resins. The other properties also fit. The other ion exchange resins had a problem with swelling, which was reflected in electrochemical properties of these ion exchange membranes.
