In dem Kapitel Postkommunistischer EU-Raum Konsolidierungsstand und Perspektiven analysieren und vergleichen die Autoren politische, ökonomische und gesellschaftliche Transformationsprozesse all jener ehemaligen Ostblockländer, die EU-Mitglieder wurden,einschließlich der ostdeutschen Bundesländer. Dieser komparative Ansatz hat sich als ausgesprochen ertragreich erwiesen. Für den postkommunistischen EU-Raum sind strukturelle Gemeinsamkeiten und analoge Entwicklungstrends kennzeichnend, die ihn sowohl von den etablierten Demokratien in der EU, als auch von den übrigen Ländern des ehemaligen Ostblocks, die nicht EU-Mitglieder sind, markant unterscheiden. Aus der vergleichenden Gesamtanalyse wird deutlich, welchen Konsolidierungsstand Politik, Wirtschaftund Gesellschaft im postkommunistischen EU-Raum inzwischen erreicht haben, welche Defizite weiter bestehen und welche Entwicklungstrends zu erwarten sind.

In the chapter, post-communist EU area consolidation status and future prospects, the authors analyse and compare political, economic and social transformation processes of all those former Eastern Bloc countries, which are now EU members, including theEast German states. This comparative approach has proven to be extremely profitable. Structural similarities and similar trends are characteristic of the post-communist EU, which significantly distinguish them from both - the established democracies in the EU, as well as the other former Eastern Bloc countries that are not EU members. The comparative overall analysis shows in which consolidation state politics, economy and society the post-communist EU is, which deficits continue to exist, and what trends are to be expected.
