Special language competences are for the cross-border-cooperation and also for the regional management very important. The same applies for the Czech-German Relationships, because the knowledge of the language of the neighbourhood is important to know, how this people are thinking and living. They are then just a lack of language skills, which may pose a problem for the creation or intensification of cross-border linkages and networks. This study will focus on, what are the barriers of this ignorance causes. It focuses on its considered ways to increase knowledge of the language of the other country and shows in particular the need to develop and implement cross-border projects that competence in this area raiser. The article is based on a quantitativeand qualitative investigation, realized in Czech and German border.
