The aim of the paper is to introduce a story of a successful inscription of the Mountain region Krušnohoří/Erzgebirge onto the UNESCO World Heritage List. The paper sums up the historical development of this region, emphasising the most prominent periods of the ore mining. The paper also describes the cultural and historical values of individual mining locations and their most significant monuments. Other preparatory research projects are described since they contributed to the successful inscription. The ongoing projects are described as well as they try to promote this mountain region and the share of its cultural and historical values involved in the education process and in further promotional and educational activities.
