Das Kapitel analysiert die Entwicklung des politischen Systems Tschechiens anhand der Critical Junctures und Meilensteine der tschechischen Politik, zu denen die Gründung des Landes im Jahr 1993, das Oppositionsabkommen von 1998?2002, die Krise der politischen Parteien ODS und ČSSD und der Aufstieg der von Andrej Babiš angeführten Bewegung ANO 2011 ins Parlament und später in die Regierung gehören. Vor allem die Babiš-Regierung, die von Präsident Miloš Zeman unterstützt wurde, stellte eine Bedrohung für die Demokratie dar. Das verfassungsmäßige System der Checks and Balances verhinderte jedoch größere politische Krisen.

The chapter analyses the development of the Czech political system on the basis of critical junctures and milestones in Czech politics, including the founding of the country in 1993, the opposition agreement of 1998?2002, the crisis of the ODS and ČSSD political parties, and the rise of the ANO 2011 movement led by Andrej Babiš to parliament and later to government. The Babiš government, supported by President Miloš Zeman, posed a particular threat to democracy. However, the constitutional system of checks and balances prevented major political crises.
