The current changes in the lifestyle of our population are linked to the development of many civilization diseases that have a very negative impact on human health. These changes not only significantly affect the quality of life but also burden our society. In particular, the increase in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases is alarming. A suitable lifestyle is the basic precondition for good health. Naturally, one of the main pillars for the healthy development of society is the healthy growth of children and youth. An important part can also be played by the school environment, which should create certain conditions necessary for the healthy development of young individuals as well as build habits to strengthen their health. This issue is in accordance with the programme of the World Health Organization called Health for All in the 21th Century and, subsequently, an approved national programme aimed at improving the health of the population of the Czech Republic. In relation to this issue, a strategic project was set up at UJEP to evaluate the current lifestyle and the impact of the education process on the health of upper primary school pupils of the Ústí Region. The projects engages students, making it possible for them to participate in the creation of healthy lifestyle prevention in pupils of selected schools of the Ústí Region with the aim of creating conditions in the education process enabling young people to be healthier and more able to fulfil their role in society. The acquired data of the university project will make it possible to present comprehensive information on the level of development and health of upper primary school pupils and the current role of schools in tackling this issue. The main part of the paper provides necessary information on the causes as well as health consequences of functional movement disorders. We give a summary of factors involved in the development of this civilization disease based on content analysis of specialized information sources. Subsequently, the paper describes the characteristics of physiotherapeutic methods, emphasizing particularly their use in pedagogical practice of the students of physical education and sports. The conclusion highlights the role of pedagogues in the development of adequate conditions and in the reinforcement of appropriate attitudes to a healthy lifestyle as an essential pillar in the prevention and treatment of functional movement disorders, thereby influencing the future healthy development of our population.
