Sexual Arousal by Dominance and Submission Represents Mating Strategy

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Introduction & objectives The origin of sexual arousal by dominance and submissiveness has not been clearly explained. We suggest it is rather an overstated behavioral strategy (?inborn mechanism that increases the reproductive success?) This study scrutinizes the hypothesis that se xual aro usal by hierarchical disparity is a manifestation of mating strategy by comparing number of offspring and self-reported attractiveness of the study participants. Population sample Respondents (n=673) aged 25-34 years and 35-44 years were recruited from the general population. Method The data was obtained via e-mail questionnaire. Results Almost half of respondents (45.9%) were excited by their partner?s submission or their own submission. Strong preference was found in 8.2% of respondents. 6.1% of respondents were excited by hierarchical disparity but not by equality. Out of the age cohort 35-44 years it was revealed that 1) sexually dominant men had more biological male children 2) both the sexually dominant men and sexually submissive women perceived themselves as being more attractive. Conclusion & recommendations. Here we show that sexual arousal by dominance is frequent and confers a n increa sed capacity to pass on genes in the general population. Therefore, sexual arousal by dominance is likely to be the means of mating strategy. Accomplishment of this strategy results in an increased reproductive success and thus may lead to the preferential selection of individuals who prefer sexual arousal by hierarchical disparity. This finding explains why a high number of people are excited by sexual fantasies and activities connected to hierarchical disparity. On the basis of these results, it is possible to conclude that some people may lose their chance to maintain long-term relationships and may bring up fewer children when they suppress their natural preferences by pairing with an inappropriate partner.
