IMA NewControl CAS SW and FW control modules

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

The NewControl project focused on developing advanced technologies for autonomous and automated vehicles. IMA's contribution to this project includes the development of the Car Access System (CAS), a vehicle access system combining NFC and Bluetooth technologies with high levels of security and reliability. The CAS hardware platform developed by IMA is designed for fail-operational sensor signal processing and integrates an NFC and Bluetooth communication interface with an embedded microcontroller and an optional capacitive sensor. The demonstrator prototype utilizes a Security Module, featuring an embedded EAL5+ certified secure element. A major focus of the development was the optimization of the NFC antenna, which is integrated into a retractable car door handle. This design had to account for the electromagnetic properties of the surrounding metal in the door, and various antenna designs were tested and optimized to achieve an optimal read distance of 2 to 6 cm, even in challenging environments with variable shielding. Security was a paramount concern, and the CAS system incorporates multi-layered security measures, including cryptographic keys stored in the secure ROM of the microcontroller. Data is transmitted and stored as a SHA-3 hash using TLS encrypted communication, ensuring robust protection against cyber threats. Energy efficiency was also addressed, with symmetrical and asymmetrical antenna designs tested and validated. The asymmetrical design achieved lower power consumption while maintaining comparable read distances, making it the preferred choice. The system's fail-operational functionality includes multiple input communication options, such as Bluetooth, NFC, and capacitive sensors, as well as a low-power mode in case of power failure. IMA successfully integrated and tested the CAS system, verifying its functionality in various scenarios, including connection loss and ID validation. SW and FW modules for each individual HW based functionality were developed, while all of these SW parts make an integral part of the CAS platform and cannot be utilized independently. Overall, IMA's work in the NewControl project has resulted in a system that combines state-of-the-art communication technologies with high levels of security, reliability, and energy efficiency. The system was designed to provide robust and reliable functionality for vehicle access, providing essential building blocks for future development and commercialization in the automotive access systems field.
