Elastic properties prediction models of continuous fibers composites

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

The determination of engineering constants and how these are best applied in practice is an important theoretical basis of modern composites design. Specific characterization of the composite material’s moduli and Poisson’s ratios, are values that enable the identification of elastic constants that determine the stiffness matrix. These key datum need to be precisely determined to accurately model any composite material behaviour under finite element analysis. The prediction of material properties in longitudinal direction is the most straightforward to calculate. However it is often far more difficult to predict properties in transversal directions. Additional factors need to be considered in the analysis of transverse behaviour in composite materials. Therefore far more data is needed to model composite material behaviour in transverse directions, where each can influence the results in unique ways. Empirical testing that matches the predicted and any theoretical results not only validates the model, but is a satisfying goal of the skilled engineer. In practice, there are many prediction methods used to model composite material behaviour. These can be best separated into several definitive groups according to model derivation. The most used methods are thereby presented in this book, to serve as a guide to applying the most appropriate method to the specific model being derived.
