The article deals with measure of the dimensional changes of the castings from Zn and Al alloys during their solidification. There was built up a measuring apparatus for this purpose. This apparatus is consists of a converter from an analog signal for adigital signal (Polish provenience), a PC and a chase whereon it is a mould with the measuring detector of the dilatation. The mould has shape of roll with a cave for cast of the castings ? 60 x 70 mm. The dilatation curves the both alloys were obtainedthese castings by the solidification. In the case of Al-alloys it was observed an influence of chemical composition and metallurgical treatment (use of refining salts) on linear changes during solidification and on the dimension of the shrinkage originating
