This paper discusses the traditional (intuitive) and systematic approaches and techniques in the field of continuous process improvement (CPI). We present the summary of widespread and trained techniques and critically evaluate them. Using our practicalexperience both from continuous improvement/lean activities and TRIZ application we describe obstacles that restrict utilization of progressive techniques for CPI-purposes at manufacturing processes. A break-through at the ?shop-floor level? will come only with a fundamental shift from intuitive techniques utilization to presentation, popularization and training of ?intermediate? methods of systematic creativity, where is possible also to use TRIZ tools. This paper primarily considers the central objectof continuous improvement (innovation) which is rather a physical element of technology, tool or process step than a manufactured product. We also show a list of recommended methods and techniques with partial application of TRIZ tools t
