This paper summarizes author’s dissertation thesis “Antimicrobial protection of geopolymers and other construction materials”. In this thesis, three distinctive approaches were chosen as possible methods to achieve antimicrobial properties. First, various commercially available coatings, varnishes or paints were tested for hydrophobic and tribological properties on geopolymer. Then, epoxy coatings chosen from the first phase were tested on geopolymer surface after being modified by metal microparticles and after plasma pretreatment of the surface, with positive results for epoxy resin with copper microparticles and plasma pretreatment. In the last phase, metal microparticles were tested as possible antimicrobial additives to geopolymers, with positive results for silver and copper microparticles.
