Angular displacement determination of an iron board for the cutting plan correction

The exact localization of the inserted material in the machine working area is an important step towards their correct processing, cutting and exact manipulation. This paper describes the algorithm of searching for rectangular objects by a single-point capacitive sensor. The algorithm is based on intelligent searching and object edges detection provided that the initial conditions are fulfilled. The algorithm accuracy and speed is caused by the used corrections. The output of the search is information about the position, object size and its angle towards the machine coordinates. Finally, the initial point for starting CNC programs is found. The coordinate system of CNC programs is modified according to the algorithm results. The algorithm is suitable for applications where it is necessary to reach high accuracy when working on a workpiece. The algorithm development was focused on laser cutting machines. By virtue of the correct localization of the cutting area, there is no wasting of material.
