Inventory management is the process of manufacturing companies that provides optimal inventory levels which would not compromise the smoothness of production processes and avoid insolvency at the same time. In the first part of this paper the classification of this type of inventory and the problems of forecasting their future consumption is presented. In the second part of the paper, the results of an analysis of inventory management in real business environments are introduced. As a major deficiency,which can generally be seen in the existing inventory management of spare parts in enterprises, the lack of methodology to predict future inventory needs was found.
